Perhaps this is a regional thing. Where I live, trucking is big business. The truckers do not want to wait longer than necessary when refueling. Hence the larger diameter nozzle that pumps more GPM. Having owned a VW diesel car, I would always have to search out where the small diameter nozzle was located, and usually there would be a car getting gas blocking that one hose, while the owner was in the convenience store looking at the girly magazines in the rack.
