I tried taking notes in class, but couldn't concentrate on what the teacher said versus what I had to write. they made no sense, so I gave up on note taking and concentrated on what teacher said.
Changed schools sophomore year, and my grade depended on my notes being turned in. Quit school. Took my GED test without any adult ed classes, and ended up in the top 10% in the state.
For some, taking notes is not only not necessary, it is actually detrimental to their thought processes.

I know how you feel, I have to adapt at times depending on which classes I take.
When I hit college, it actually was easier than High School Need to note something, I could highlight it. I loved it when I'd buy a used book and half the "note taking" was already done. But anytime I made any notes, they were for my use. Most of my note taking in class was listening to the lectures, then reword it in a way I could understand, and ask the question with that terminology. Slow down the class? many of my fellow students ended up with higher grades because I did that. I was translating lecture in to layman's language.
