Not true. I was in a history class when the first gulf war broke out. My class had a heated discussion about it and my history teacher had the biggest grin on his face. When asked why, he said it was so refreshing to see students debating instead of sitting like bumps on a log like his other classes.

Its up to the students to question the teachers as much as it is the teachers job to educate us.

Nowadays, guest speakers are “disinvited” if one group or another disagrees with their views.

And its bullshit. You need to let people speak even when you disagree with them. I personally think Ann Coulter is a vapid hack, but she has a right to speak and I have a right to call her out. Goes both ways.

Silence those you disagree with is the first step to losing the rest of your rights. That's why dictatorships and other authoritarian regimes silence the opposition and we need to remember that its our first right in the Bill of Rights.
