The story of how Pixar made it is now the stuff of legends. It originated as a 60-minute direct-to-video sequel, but Disney upgraded it to a theatrical release, which forced Pixar to add 30 minutes of story, animation, dialogue, lighting, and music. The story reels turned out to be disappointing, so Pixar decided to write a new script and completely redo the movie. The release date couldn't be postponed, however, so Pixar was forced to make the entire movie in only 9 months. All of their staff put in 60-hour work weeks to complete the film on time, and a full 30% suffered repetitive stress injuries. The film was released in 1999 to a wildly successful theatrical run and a rare 100% rating on the RottenTomatoes Tomatometer. Of all films with a 100% rating, it has the highest number of aggregated reviews, making it the best-reviewed film on the site. The success of Toy Story 2 allowed Pixar to move into an new campus (designed and paid for by Steve Jobs) and give the crew 2 weeks of rest before starting the next project l, a film that would become Monsters, Inc.
