No, ya don't. He was a good writer. I notice most people skimmed over this without realizing that he was a force behind Animal House and several other movies between '75 and '80.

His death was treated as an accident. One of his friends commented that Doug probably slipped and fell off the cliff while looking for a place to jump off.

I started reading NatLamp my frosh year in high school. It certainly wasn't Mad Magazine.

I've heard from many over the years talking suicide, and tried to think what impossible thing I can possibly say to deter it.

Nothing.
But no matter. Not one of them dead.

Those that I know who have killed themselves kept it to themselves till after it was too late.

I'll go along with those that knew him. He may have considered it, but I don't think he actually meant to do it. He did more in his 30 years than most people do in twice that time.

I'm totally unfamiliar with the story, so I don't know what they said about him.
