[image deleted]I could make a joke about you being whipped, but I won't :) it's just a joke anyway :)

I'm very pro-gun, but I don't really have much interest in hunting, just recreational shooting. The way I see it, even though the average citizen may not NEED a full-auto gun, I don't see a reason why law-abiding citizens SHOULDN'T have them. Full-auto weapons owned by law abiding citizens are almost never used in crimes. Why? Because the people who own them obey the law. You have to go through a very, VERY rigorous background check to even hope to buy a Class III device. I tend to err on the side of freedom, if that makes sense. Things should be legal unless there is a very compelling reason why they should be illegal, not the other way around. I wouldn't go quite as far as tetsuo, who thinks ANYTHING the military uses should be available to the average citizen.

I don't believe a "second American Revolution" is coming, like some nutjobs think, but I do see the government sometimes overstepping its bounds and doing things which could be considered tyrannical.

As to what the public can purchase. Can someone with the right background get a functional RPG Launcher and RPG or a Gatling gun capable of firing 2k+ rounds per minute?

If you pass all the proper background checks and live in certain states you can purchase Class III items, which include full-auto guns, suppressors (silencers), "AOWs" ("all other weapons," such as short-barreled shotguns), and "destructive devices," such as grenade launchers (not sure if you can buy exploding rounds or just smoke grenades). I don't think that average citizens should be allowed to own missiles and rockets and stuff like that, but if someone owns a large piece of property and wants to dick around with some small grenades, I don't really care.

libtard did make a good point about how the US government has a much larger arsenal than regular citizens, so if they did become tyrannical, there's not a whole lot we could do about it.

Personally I look at it this way:
We have THE RIGHT to bear arms. Rights can AND SHOULD be reasonably regulated.
Like the Right to free speech. You can't simply say whatever, wherever, whenever you want. To protect others, there are limits, regulations on what you can say, when and where.

Same should be done on the right to bear arms. TO PROTECT OTHERS, we need to reasonably regulate guns.

We have the right to own guns,. that's indisputable.

What's not indisputable is HOW we get the guns. Personally I think we need federal laws including but not limited to:
Gun registration
Gun Insurance
Gun inspection (like in many states where cars are inspected annually for safety)
Owner licensing WITH mandatory training
HARSH penalties including jailtime for "losing" guns or habitually having them "stolen"

ALL guns start out legal. Through these tough laws and attrition the "illegal" guns would be picked up off the streets. I am not even proposing banning any guns.

BUT- the notion we need them to protect us from a tyrannical government is laughable. No amount of guns is gonna outpower the missiles, fighter jets, drones and nukes the government has. The idea of a militia doing jack shit is hilarious.

I think libtard's proposed laws are way too restrictive, like gun insurance and inspection. I think the laws we have now are (mostly) sufficient.

You can't buy/own a gun if you've been convicted of a felony (even a nonviolent one), ANY domestic violence crime (even a misdemeanor), been adjudicated mentally defective, ever renounced your US citizenship, etc

The problem is the LEGAL guns too easily fall into the black market where they become "illegal" and in the hands of those that shouldn't have them (even those you mentioned that can't buyt hem legally.) All the background checks in the world won't stop that. The measure I mentioned are HUGE deterrents to the people that "lose" guns this way and put them in the hands of criminals.

ALL guns start out legal. The gun companies aren't selling them to thugs and gangsters out the back door of the gun plant. It's happening after that.

Illegal guns are picked up EVERY day now. If we stop them from bleeding into circulation in the first place, the only ones on the street would be the ones that exist at the time of the implementation of the laws. Eventually they would be drastically reduced.
