You may be referring strictly to the term islamophobia. As a phenomenon, it has existed before 1980. As far back as 1918 French term 'islamophobie' was used. Don't confuse the coining of a term as being the source of the phenomenon. The most odd suggestion you make is that liberal media created islamophobia, when the religious contention has always been dominated by christian/conservatives.
