I've only downvoted a few idiotic memes. I don't get offended so I don't really ever think about downvoting. I wish there was a downvote counter though. I'm interested to know how many downvotes I get.

But on the other hand, you're right. Why is there a "downvote button"? In other forums you can see the number of downvotes (as well as the upvotes). That "counter" of what ryanmer1 is talking might be a nice tool!

I'm just saying, if something pizzez me off, i downvote it. If I don't like it, or just think it stupid, I scroll past. And if it makes me smile or better I upvote it. If it makes me want to say something, good or ill, I comment. I thought that is how it was supposed to work.
Never downvoting is too close to participation trophies.
