Haha, true! I just find it pathetic that the media found a way to make it look like conservatives are committing some kind of crime- then again, being pathetic has always been the media's specialty.

Picard Wtf Meme | SO PROTESTING THE PRESIDENT IN THE STREETS IS FINE, BUT BOYCOTTING THE ACADEMY AWARDS ISN'T? SOME "FREE COUNTRY" THIS IS! | image tagged in memes, picard wtf | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Seems like these days anything can get offended by... Well, anything. I hope the president can at least make America have a backbone again, we've become so soft it's almost as pathetic as the media itself.

There's no logical connection there.

You mean between the meme and my comment? The comment is in response to Gunny's, because he said even his computer seemed to be getting offended. The meme is just a continuation of the initial meme. Unless you're talking about the initial meme, in which case it's like this... Conservatives boycotting academy awards: media bashes like crazy. Liberals protesting, so much, that they postpone the president's immigration ban... The media praises non-stop. What if conservatives stopped the academy awards from happening? Not that they COULD, but do you see my point? Boycotting the academy awards shouldn't be a big deal, no matter what the reasoning is... Yet the media blows it up like it's some kind of world-wide issue.

I agree. I'm a liberal and I'm fine with people boycotting what they want for whatever reason. And protesting for whatever reason they so desire. It's called freedom. The protesters didn't stop Trump's immigration order, the courts did after attorneys general of objecting states filed a lawsuit. Never saw a single instance of media mentioning a conservative boycott of the Academy Awards, much less bash it. And I can remember no direct instance of any media praising any partisan group for protesting the immigration ban. Reporting things happening does not mean support one way or the other. Conflating a supposed boycott of a piece of entertainment with a court-ordered halt to an executive order has no reasoned connection, other than an attempt to stir up one perceived side or the other. Inverse reasoning merely indicates propagandizing support for one side or the other.

Alright, you have a point... But even still, if there had been less protesting about the immigration ban, there wouldn't have been a halt on the ban... Or at least not as quickly. In my mind, the sheer amount of protests had to have had some influence on it. And also, maybe the boycotting wasn't super-huge news everywhere... It's still irritating to wake up in the morning and see that on your phone's news app. Honestly, it annoys me how certain people in news, journalism, etc. Write things so negatively, simply because they dislike it (or the other way around, even.) Despite everything though, I've seen enough of this protesting garbage in the news. Enough is enough already! People protest- good for them, it happens. Not something that needs to be on the news 24/7 though.

(I've seen a lot of protestings in my newsfeeds, but also a lot of Trump-bashing too. Heaven forbid he opens his mouth to speak... No matter what it is it'll be twisted to make it look bad! I'm just tired of the negativity coming from people, it makes my head spin. Apparently I need a break from politics- or even just news in general, I've seen enough as it is.)

It just depends on what news app you use. Perhaps the media are simply reflecting the populace in general? Doesn't need to be twisted; if there are protests they report it. You have your right to your beliefs about Trump, and I would strongly support your right to express them, but that also works the other way around. Being a month into your first term and having popularity ratings below 50% is bad no matter how you look at it (and no, that's not 'fake news', it just is). It's simply a reflection of citizens' reactions to his style of governance.

I have spent less time in the political memes myself, but for 180 degree reasons; there is simple too much crowing about Trump's triumph which, in my belief, are unwarranted. I guess we'll just have to stand at opposites and hopefully have respectable debates. So far so good. Thanks.

Honestly I'm not sure what to believe when it comes to Trump... Though I suppose, in some ways, I do support him- or at least don't think his ideas are going to be the end of the world (some people seem to act like that.)
Anyway, as true as those ratings may be, it seems a bit unfair because he's only just started. Then again, I feel as though a new president is never really accepted; they just need some time to get used to. So we'll just have to wait and see how the dust settles, so to speak.

Those are just memes though, there are many conservatives here (or so it seems, anyway.) This is where I go to get a break from all the negativity of the news and see something positive being said about the president XD though I will say this: while the news isn't always great, sometimes it is just people themselves posting comments. When it comes to politics (or really anything), you find more comfort with like-minded people. I too hope we can continue to have respectable debates, should our paths cross again.

Not the end of the world, it just seems like too much of a reality show. Unfair? Maybe. But unless things pick-up quick I do think thing will spiral lower, and it will be the working man who had faith in Trump who will suffer. As to others who have conservative opinions? I will respectfully hear them out, as long as they do so to me. But nowadays both sides of the aisle have too much at stake. Anyway, thanks for the actual discussion...
