I said none of that. I have problems with violence in any system. I am against Islamic 'fundamentalism' just as I am against Christian 'fundamentalism'. First off their interpretations are anything but fundamental to the prime theology of the religions, but that is a textual criticism. My main issue is that fundamentalist extremism is birthed from the conservative nature of the interpretations. It is the conservative members of the various religions who resort to violence when the world structure doesn't turn out as they would want. To blame every Muslim for the terrorism a few do is as much a logical fallacy as if one were to condemn all Christians for the misdeeds of a tiny minority. Agitation for sharia law is merely a manifestation of the fear and anger members of those societies have against change. One can find abhorrent verses in Deuteronomy and Leviticus that would be inapplicable in the modern world, or at least free and open societies within it. And it's not all religious; the current adoration of Donald Trump is merely white middle-class fear of change. If he had not become president I have little doubt there would have been violent repercussions on the part of his most fervent followers. The basic problem is this: people with conservative values fear change and when change comes, as it inevitably does, those people are seduced by systems of belief that promise a return to halcyon days that never truly existed, where those who look and think like them were in power, and when the change - ALWAYS - happens anyway, you get outfits like al-Qaeda and Islamic State, and on a lesser scale, Americans who believe millions of votes were illegal and that 'elites' are holding them back and if only 'alternative facts' were forced on the populace then things would be as they should be. I consider the fight against rightist thinking like this to be the best manifestation of American values. It's part of the international order that American strength built since World War II, and it's what's in danger of disappearing and weakening this great country in the next four years.
