Holy shit! I know that feeling...

It was only a problem after 1st grade. Until that teacher forced me to use only my right hand. I used both left and right hands for everything.

Well, that's ambidextrous-ist.

Thank God that old wives tale has finally bit the dust. My ex tried forcing our youngest into it until I put a stop to it.

Dad was a southpaw as is my oldest sister.

Pretty much. Anti semitism had pretty much died down by the time I was a kid, but many of the older folks, like my first grade teacher, may have been influenced by it. Basically,"Jews are left handed and that's bad". Today, it would be the Muslims in underdeveloped areas that use their left hand to wipe without benefit of toilet paper that sounds the alarm. The unclean hand.

I didn't notice any other lefties in the class, although it comprised of about 30% Jewish kids. Go figure.

Anyway, back in the day, being a leftie was considered an evil omen partly because of what I mentioned. Being forced to favor one hand over the other does cause some problems or benefits. With me, I can use either side of my brain. One reason why I did well in math and language. Most people are proficient in one or the other. Go figure.

Yeah my mom told me when she was a kid left handed kids were treated like they had some kind of disability, and we're given "treatments" to correct the supposed problem.

The struggle is real.
In kindergarten there were two lefties and only two pairs of lefty scissors. Both pairs were dull and the pivot was apparently lubricated with sandy epoxy which made cutting construction paper so painful I turned to the darkside, started using right handed scissors.

What is odd is that I write with my left hand but use the scissors with my right. But, when I use the scissors, I move and turn the paper with my left as I cut...if that makes sense. I received a nice pair of lefty scissors and a lefty ruler once but they felt odd because by then I was already used to the right handed ones. Aaaand now everyone is bored. :)
