Actually torracat has a backstory , he is based on the japenese yokai "nekomata"

It's still one of the laziest Stage 1 starter designs. Compare Litten to Torracat and then Snivy to Servine or Charmander to Charmeleon. That was the point, not that it didn't have a backstory because I was pretty sure it did.

Litten was my starter too, mostly because I don't like Rowlet very much and my friend discouraged me from getting Popplio by saying Primarina's terrible when she isn't. And I don't care that starters have a 7/8 chance of being male, Primarina's a girl.

Although when I got Sun, I chose Popplio instead because why the hell not.
