Studies have actually been done. Republicans donate more to charity than Democrats. Republicans believe in donations, not taxes. Charities tend to find more creative ways to make the money beneficial to those it is supposed to help. Government tends to find more creative ways to waste tax dollars. A larger percentage of the money donated to most charities (some charities are scams, but legal, so do your research) make it to the needy than tax dollars in government programs.
