I'm not sure I track. I just guess it seems a bit odd that the supreme god of the universe would have to make any point to someone he fired. Much less, actually betting on the outcome of torture. I can think of a lot of different ways to get a point across short of allowing someone to be tortured to demonstrate their loyalty to me. The OT depicts a god that is all too human. Remember Moses had to remind god to keep his promise not to kill everyone again.. and rebuked god for it. God did pay him back later under the pretense of punishing him for getting angry and hitting a rock with a stick. Sounds like an old grudge to me.
