If things don't pick back up by mid-January it may be time to retire Page 9 :(

It may just be the holiday, but It may be this new every 10 minute format that is driving people off.

It's totally the holiday weekend coming into play tonight, but others think it's changed from what it was supposed to be....a way to get new memers or lesser known memers higher on the hot pages and get them more exposure.

I notice that all the memes don't get upvoted for as many people who are participating each night too. The way they have NSFW memes working right now I won't upvote those because I don't want to have to toggle my settings and hope I remember to change them before work.

I liked Page 9 parties mostly because, like you told SuperDenni earlier, it's a great way to interact with everyone. It was awesome for me as a newbie to get into meme offs with Lynch, Jying, CoolerMommy(1.0!), Memester and many others. It's lost that feeling for me since Halloween (or that first Monday Presidential debate, whichever was first), because since then there's been drastically fewer participants.

It used to be Page 9 would bring 3-6 memes to the front page by Tuesday evening. There's just not enough of us lately to even get a meme to page 15 of the hottest, yet alone page 7 or so which is where memes really seem to pick up steam. :(

Lynch has a new idea for what could replace Page 9, I like her idea, it's just a matter of a specific meme getting enough visibility/upvotes though, so it's an uphill battle.

Pg 9 definitely is in a slump, and has been since, like you said late October/ Early November. It was a lot of fun when I was on the road and staying in a hotel alone. Now with fewer participants it has certainly lost its appeal.

I think if we could do something like I did for 88mph (where'd he go anyway) on a random day and time, it may be more productive to get the newbie on the board and interested in doing it again.

I don't know what Lynch has in mind but I'm willing to give anything a try.

I'm fairly certain 88mph was an alt. I also think 3 other accounts that made the weekly leaderboard within the past 45 days were alt accounts as well.

I still believe 88mph's rise was a total fluke. I saw what appeared to be a noob, and thought I would be nice and welcome them. I invited Coolermommy2.0 to say hi, and it went nuts from there. It seemed like everyone on the site had comments on that one. I didn't see any patterns either, so I can't tell if it was an alt or not.

KimberLee_Lee wasn't an alt. That was just Craziness' old account.

I'm talking about Staronline, Justanotherdayinlife, and another account I can't remember off the top of my head.

It was Kimberlee_lee or something like that.

She deleted that account and made Craziness the next day or two.

I'm sure Usernamenone was an alt too, but they made templates and went all religious crazy. None of the alts I'm talking about did that, they just disappeared into irrelevancy.

No idea who, but the 3 who hit the leaderboards and vanished just like that all followed a very similar pattern. They all seemed to use the same source material, they followed similar meme creation patterns, and they all just stopped posting before cracking the Top 100.

I've only been here like since June I think, didn't even know of all this activity till November because I accessed the site through the Ghetto Jesus template and not the Front Page. Plus I used to only just make memes as a way to club trolls upside the head on a forum I'm active on,,,

So what's the purpose of alt accounts and deleting them and all this page 9 stuff and is the only way to get noticed is by using meme phrases used elsewhere? Some I've seen before, and some others I Google turn up as well,,,
Also I heard talk of bots, what's the purpose?

Ok, I'm not that funny or whatever, but some that I see get attention have me looking at them upside down wondering what am I missing, while some cool ones I've seen get 2 upvotes and 23 views. I know popularity comes into play, but still,,,

I haven't seen the leaderboard in so long, I wouldn't know who was coming and going. I did that the last time was on, and it really chewed me up. The points are the least of my worries anymore. I did see 88's profile is still open, but hasn't been active since Mid October.

IronCobra comes to mind. I remember that name cause I thought it was like a Shelby Cobra reference and then googled it, a brand of drum pedal. I think Page 9 parties were killed by the rapid fire featuring. I tried to participate in a few around the holidays, but couldn't find the party.

I've been off since before the holiday, so when I came back up this morning, the NSFW images are now displayed as gray boxes with a warning to turn on the NSFW filter if you want to see them. I always kept my filter off, so that I didn't have to know they were there. Now I see how much there really is on the site. I realize not all the images are truly NSFW, but even still that's a lot of BS to wade through to find the good stuff.

Seeing how they flagged SMES's meme as NSFW because of the comments in it I'm going to ask people to not put the bikini ladies in my memes. Who knows what the threshold is for a mod deciding to independently flag a meme NSFW because of the comments section.

I don't mind cursing in comedy at all, but when it comes to memes and imgflip, I just don't see that NSFW language enhances many memes at all. It certainly lowers mass appeal. Being creative without being vulgar seems to have a much better payoff.

As far as comments go though, depending on where those rabbit holes take you sometimes NSFW is the only way to go!

Completely agree with you on those points. A good example of that was that Rap Battle last weekend, that went downhill very fast, and just stayed there. I have to listen to that nonsense nearly everyday at work, I come here so I can escape that. Memers like you, Coolermommy2.0, Raydog and a few others bring class to this site, and I appreciate it.

Yeah, I was very disappointed with the direction Courrier took it. You can tell from the upvotes that most people felt that way too.

As much as I get from this site I want to be able to give back. So I'm actually classier here than I typically am most other places. Somewhere along the way I became a community leader here so I feel I need to set the bar high.

imgflip got me through 4 months of overnights, including some days where I'd only have interaction with real live people for only 5 minutes in 24 hours. With all that and the fun I get out of it, I gladly bought a Pro account a few weeks ago so I could make better gifs. But then the gif backlash happened...LOL I mostly bought it for my picture gifs though, because I want to make them full size, instead of limited in size like my typewriter 'ain't got time for that' gif.
