The will to kill is what kills people. He didn't intend to injure them, he meant to kill them. Not having a gun didn't stop him from trying.

What's that got to do with anything? If he had a gun, the fatality rate would very likely have been non-zero whether he intended it or not.

And I think we both agree that there WAS a murderous intent in this situation, which translated to no deaths because there was an absence of a tool engineered to maximize fatalities. He tried to kill eleven people and scored zero because he used tools that were designed primarily for not-killing.

I don't know how else to rephrase this to convey the point that you're not getting.
