But when conditions were as bad as they were yesterday, and I came across 3 drivers without their lights on during my drive home from work it just makes me want to put them into the ditch.

You must be west of me. Our snow started this morning. It's not sticking yet, but people forget to drive in the winter every single year.
During the daylight hours I drive with the amber running lights on, rain or shine. Half the problem is seeing other people and the other half is them seeing you.
