Actually the US did manage to balance the budget from 1998 - 2001 when WJC was President and the Republicans controlled Congress. So it is possible for the government to only spend as much as it takes in. If that will occur next year remains to be seen.

Both sides deserve credit for the balanced budget. The President couldn't have signed it in to law without it passing the Republican controlled Congress. Same for welfare reform. I'm old enough to remember all those fights including the House impeachment. Most on the left wanted to make it about sex but that was not why WJC was investigated or impeached in the House. The President lied under oath and subordinated purjury from another to deny an American citizen their day in court. I understand that many may not care for Newt personally but he is very well qualified for Sec of State. Given that Trump is not a typical politician I think many of us are in for a few surprises.

Newt was pioneer of obstructionism, because he's close-minded, stubborn...only interested in his neocon vision for America and view of the world. He has ALSO said very questionable things.

He trailblazed that for clowns like Mitch McConnell and John Boehner. I apologize if I'm not enthusiastic.
