Back In My Day

Back in my day if we wanted to be lazy potheads--we had to work to be able to afford weed.

I work 8 hours a day on my feet, ringing up enormous, bulky items at my local Kohl's. I also have to run around the store to clean up all sorts of ridiculous messes, stock the shelves, and put the stuff back that our customers decide at the last minute they don't want. As if the physical labor and grumpy customers aren't enough, many either don't speak English, or speak it with an accent so thick that their speech is completely unintelligible.

And yet no matter how frustrated I get on the job, I always have a professional smile on my face, greet you in a friendly manner, answer your stupid questions politely, patiently wait for you to count out EXACT CHANGE in pennies, tell you an item's price even when it's written right on the price tag, break a $100 bill for a $2.15 purchase, and split your enormous purchase into 342 separate transactions, along with dozens of labor-intensive favors I have to do for our customers, no questions asked.

Oh, and I don't smoke pot.

Oh, no!!! Sorry! I was not directing negativity at you! I just continue the replies with more jokes!!! I didn't mean you were a lazy pothead. I just meant, that when I was in my younger party days we had to work if we wanted to drink, somke and party!!! Now a days, these kids get PTSD from a college professor making a statement about abortion or terrorism and then claim they have a medical condition that requires medical marijuana. Its a liberal PS BS scam to get Obamacare to cover their weed, so they dont have to work to be able to afford the weekend parties. I didnt mean anything about you personally. I was just talking about the difference between the 90's and now.

For work, I am a self employed professional. After literally every place I have ever worked in the last 15 years went bankrupt and out of business, I went out on my own. I don't smoke pot or do any drugs. I don't drink, either. Except on new years and rare occasions. Back in my day, hard work got people somewhere---no wait, that was already ending when my day was starting. I have seen others who's numbers were at the bottom of the barrel or just middling repeatedly rewarded, everywhere, when the few of us who were top performers got nothing for it--I knew it was time to go out on my own. People who tow the line are more valued than the people that get stuff done now a days. Too bad some of us came from the time where we were still told hard work would pay off.
