People create God in their image because they want justice, and feel like some people need to be punished. So they created a punishing God, or at least a God that makes them jump through hoops so they won't be eternally damned. It might surprise you that some people of deep faith in God believe creation has been redeemed through Jesus, and the love of God is universal. That's just my opinion, take it or leave it.
