Gone are the days of my youth with 'Officer Friendly' in the schools and cops on the neighborhood beat. Now it's a paramilitary force with a siege mentality. Understandable in many ways since criminals have access to better weaponry and are more prone to use it. I support law enforcement but I also know that if my pigment were of a darker hue I would've been stopped many more times for doing the same things I do now. It would be nice if police would stop people for obvious malignant activity, just as it would be nice if communities of color would raise their children to pursue more positive models of behavior. It is a two-way world.
