There's not really an appropriate meme, so conversation it is. :)
I personally do see pride in virginity prior to marriage as a religious conceit. I concede, it's not exclusive to Christianity, but without marriage there is no concept of sex before marriage. While everyone is free to choose as they may about social standards, 'no sex before marriage' may be considered a wider part of doctrine. Obviously, modern marriage needs no religious leader or endorsement to be 'official', but it is still based on the concept of what marriage has always been under the religious banner.
Anyway, just my thoughts to clarify.
