I didn't say you stood because it was a "Law." Frankly the Code isn't a true "Law."
You seem to be getting angry. Please calm down and read CAREFULLY this time, as you seem to be missing my point and assuming a different one.
I said we stand because of a tradition of respect began BY the implementation of the code. That's where it began, that's how it started, that's why people did it to begin with, and just because you (and most people) don't know that doesn't make it any less true.
The Code is a simply laid out explanation of how the Flag and many of our traditions should be properly respected. So I learned them. Because I love this country and I want to show the proper respect for it's symbols, traditions, and those who came before me who fought for my freedoms.
It's the same Code that governs the proper care and display of the Flag, states the official Pledge of Allegiance, and so on and so on. It is the same Code that you have, I would imagine, defended numerous parts of without even realizing it. I say "without even realizing it" because you seem to not know the Code, but you seem to have strong opinions on parts of it.
So call my respect for and knowledge of the traditions of this Nation "Pathetic" if you want. Doesn't bother me. My love for this country and my intelligence demand better of me than that. I just feel bad for armchair Patriots who don't know enough about our Nation's history and traditions to even know why said traditions exist in the first place and yet feel justified making reasons up regardless of historical fact.
P.S. Do you even know why we sing the Anthem at ball games? Because " %99.5 " of the folks that do it don't, but they blindly do it anyway without having any clue as to why.
