Not sure if you can tell or not...and what Octavia said goes for me too, but maybe rarer than that. I just move on. Other people usually have them flagged and gone before I even see them.

If you can't tell, why do memers comment about trolls down voting their memes?

Not sure. There are memers that must have a notebook or something because points must be all they care about. But I have heard that if a meme gets featured it can go back to 'submitted' if it gets downvotes. Back in the day, you could see the votes, i.e. 8 upvotes, 2 down votes. But that feature disappeared a while back. I guess I'm just a purist. Make funny memes, make funny comments, stay away from confrontations and your points soar!

What do you feel the demographics are for this site ? I think I make memes that sometimes fly over too many heads

Good question! I try to keep it simple, most jokes are old jokes, but tied to the right meme at te right time generate votes and comments. i.e. ALL the Star wars stuff goes over my head but it seems to be popular. Political memes were hot for a while, but seemed to have tailed off. It all is a crapshoot really! But a lot of the popular users are 30-50+ years old. Theres a meme out there that everyone posted their age and I was surprised myself. I'll be 53 in 2 weeks.

..57 male. Really enjoy the creative memes. Kind of aggravates me to see simple minded memes dominate front page i.e. Carl the greens keeper.A good meme is art.

There's no reliable way I know of to tell if your meme has been downvoted (unless it's in a memestream, where downvotes are visible). People speculate about downvotes based on how quickly or slowly their meme is rising or falling in the Hot section, but since there are other factors involved in that, they're just guessing.

I think it's good to downvote memes you don't like, as well as upvoting memes you do. It's everyone's right as a user to have some influence as to what memes will be most popular on the site, and what memes are most likely to reach the front page. Downvotes help you do that just as much as upvotes do.
