Progressives usually don't have problems with Christianity itself. Their issues usually lie with the homophobia, Islamophobia, and science denialism that is unfortunately so common with American Christians.

With it being the majority religion, progressives DO have an issue with Christianity in much the same way that they have issue with white males.
They make convenient targets which look like butthurt crybaby wusses if they complain.
Minority religions, races, ethnicities, etc, coming from a position of less power, can justify playing victim and asking for concessions because of such,,,
For the status quo so-called, 'elites,' it would be laughable for them to seek pity.
It would be like God asking for equal rights,,,
