36 US Code section 301. The law applies when "present" during the playing of the anthem. TV, photographs, and radio are not performance in your presence during anthem rendition. Thus you are not under federal law at home watching a ball game. It appears Mr. Richie Baller has decided to violate one law to force his interpretation of the application of another law. Just more ghetto gang law.

36 US Code, Section 301 uses the term "should"...thus indicating a recommendation, NOT a requirement.

You interprete should to mean may. The word may is used when referring to the salute by military where should is used elsewhere. Not the same words, or meaning.

So...it's only appropriate to stand (do the right thing) if lots of people are watching? Are your children watching and learning?

There is a right way and a wrong way to get your meesage across, when your on a pro sports team you have to act as a solid cohesive unit, you've heard the phrase "no I in team", that's what he is doing, which is why he's riding the pine. And he gets paid very handsomly for it. I agree that there are some issues with the police and race, but it's not beeing perpitrated by America as a whole, and the anthem represent America as a whole. There's seems to be a disconect from what is really going on in the black lives matter and that is the black on black crimes that nobody seems to stand up (or sit down) for. Where are the celebrity/ sport star protests in that? You can't pick and choose the glamorous protests over "whats hot now" issues, especially at $however many millions a year you make. He could Take some of that money and start putting it towards getting his point across in a different avenue and start the conversation, rather than dividing the paying public over a protest, or is that too close to the wallet for him? I go to or watch sporting events for the entertainment, not to get lectured by an entitled lone wolf athlete.

See 36 USC 301 on federal law for anthem.

The "right" way to protest is any way that calls attention to your cause, while NOT harming others in the process. The manner that he has chosen - although not the one I would choose - is therefore quite proper, as it is indeed calling attention to one of so many issues of injustice and inequality that one cannot possibly actively protest them all simultaneously. You do not agree with his method. That in itself, does NOT make it wrong. He is speaking out in his preferred method, just as you are speaking out against it here. THAT is what makes America great!

First, it isn't required to stand when watching it on tv in your home.

Second, if I'm wearing a hat at the time, I remove it because I don't take the flag and all it stands for, lightly.

It isn't required ANYWHERE. The Flag Code is a set of guidelines, not laws.

I didn't say it was required anywhere. But not standing and respecting the flag is not a good way to protest anything, especially when the crap you're protesting isn't even a real issue.

Racial inequality and police brutality aren't real issues?

Issues, yes. The extremity of the issues, no. A lot of these "issues" are only issues because of what the liberal media paint and their disdain for the White middle class. Calling for the death of police officers is not the right thing to do.
0 ups, 8y
To say they are only issues because of the media insinuates they are not issues--that they do not REALLY exist. To blame the liberal media or the conservative media is a cop out (no pun intended). We are each responsible for our own beliefs and actions, and we are each responsible to learn the truth about an issue (and, Facebook is NOT the place to learn the truth). You are absolutely right that calling for the death of police officers is not the right thing to do, but nowhere have I seen that he (Kaepernick) is doing that. If you have, then please give me a link so that I can see it for myself.

...and, the fact that it has drawn so much attention to the issue looks to me like it's an EXCELLENT way to protest.

Not required. But, given that he is a talented?!? Athlete, and a roll model for our youth, he could have chosen to take a stance on a real cause. Hunger? Scholarships? Mentor? Abuse?

You're saying it's not a real cause?

A cause for him to be an a/hole? Or a cause for him to express his beliefs?

He is exercising his First Amendment right to freedom of expression...just as you are by commenting on my meme - which is me exercising MY right to it. Just because you don't like the way he's protesting, doesn't mean he's an "a/hole." Why can't you just disagree with the manner of protest and leave it at that. Racial inequality however, IS real, and he is right to bring attention to it....however he does it.

I'll tell you what is real- the oppression of woman. Sex trafficking. Hunger. War.
No response is necessary. We can all keep our unpopular opinions to our selves.
1 up, 8y
As long as these issues: the oppression of women, sex trafficking, hunger, war, and racial injustice (to name only a few) exist, we MUST express our opinions and fight against them--especially for those who cannot fight for themselves. Whenever we see hate, bigotry, discrimination, or injustice of ANY kind (regardless of how "popular" it might be at the moment), it is our duty as Christians to call attention to it. To remain silent indicates that such behavior is acceptable.

What ever you think about his protest of the National anthem, he did what every skell in the limelight does. Shed light on his pet issue via negative attention... Kanye stealing the Mic, Michael Stipe hijacking music awards to protest gun control etc. Nothing to see here...
