? Downvotes still work, you just can't see them. But what is your concern?

I want to be able to see them again.

There was too much attention to downvotes which attracted downvote fairies and trolls.

They should have ignored the whiners who needlessly complained about the old downvote system.

I don't think I see negative votes on reddit anymore either, so it's a trend

Could you please explain this for a new user? How was the system before?

There used to be an upvote/downvote system where it actually had a bar. The bar was green and red and showed the ammount of upvotes and downvotes. They did away with it toward the end of last year.
