I joined too late, now i will never feel the joy of 3 submissions

it's to do with your level of activity, and probably once you hit a certain points threshold. sometimes i get 3, sometimes it's just 2

You get 3 at about 20k points or if you submit a lot. It'll go back down to 2 if you don't submit for a few days, but then it'll be back a 3 the next day you submit.

27000+ points, submits daily, featured daily, still only 2 subs, so that theory apparently does not apply to everyone.

They also take away a submission if you use certain curse words the meme you submit. Trust me, I learned this the hard way. Even if it's cursing in a foreign language.

No, it probably wasn't that, you probably only used 1 or 2 for a few days, then sometimes they drop back to 2.

Oh no, I 100% FOR SURE started those days with three, submitted the offending posts, and only had one remaining for the day.

I made a ton of crappy NSFW memes anonymously my first month here, but I didn't have enough points for 3 submissions, so maybe I could test that out...

I learned when I was trying to test the mods because they let so much crap through that didn't meet TOS or submission guidelines (only English meme's will be featured!?). So even including f*ck or shit in German and Spanish (tried twice) didn't get featured and cost me a daily submission.

I don't think it would do that if you cursed in English though... that's interesting.

Some people say that the site's creator is possibly a troll, but he's rarely on.

3 subs comes and goes like the wind around here, I haven't gotten 3 yet and i've been on over a month now. Other noobs were getting 3 right out of the gate. If you're good you won't need the third sub.

You could just hack your way out of it
