Republicans passed the 13,14, and 15th amendments to the Constitution. Also, it was Republicans in the House and Senate that broke the Democrat filibuster of the 1964 civil rights act. Yes, Goldwater opposed the Act but on questions of constitutionality, not bigotry. All major segregationist were democrats like Lester Maddox, Bull Conner and J. William Fulbright.
