They "had" to disregard the EU for "creative freedom" but still cherrypick the EU for almost every single aspect of the films.

Rebels at least started off being pro EU.

And they've messed up Thrawns backstory by having him already a Grand Admiral during the Rebels series. He didn't achieve the rank till a few years later(right before or right after first death star).

It's like Disney is f**king with the fans on purpose.

I'm not sure of the timetable for season 3, it was my understanding that they've left it a question on purpose, so it might end up being right before Rogue One since it's possibly the final season.

Rebels is set 4 years before the Battle of Yavin. Rogue One is in the year before the Battle of Yavin.

They can have stuff in Rebels hint at Rogue One for sure. I don't think we'll see any of the main Rebels crew in the film. But events could tie in.
