They refuse to acknowledge this. My husband is stuck in a security job that he hates (he had it before Obamacare). It's minimum wage (it used to be a little above minimum wage, but when minimum wage went up, it didn't), so he would rather work at a McDonalds, or other minimum wage fast food restaurant. He has looked and found that all places hiring only offer part time, usually less than 20 hours. This government interference in the job market means it is harder to find full time employment. Juggling two part time jobs is far more work than a single full time job and has additional costs (fuel or bus fare for the travel between jobs, personal time for the travel between jobs, the trouble of getting two jobs to try and coordinate thier hours so they're not in conflict, ect.) This legislation that is supposed to help, actually makes it harder for those entering the job market.
And with the minimum wage increase, me and my husband were making more than minimum wage, but when it went up, our pay didn't. Now the cost of living has gone up, our pay hasn't. My years with the company don't mean shit. I barely get paid more than the newbie because minimum wage practically doubled overnight in California.
