If you've just met someone and they ask your nationality, how do you answer? Honestly, I say American. I know they're asking my ancestry but I'am a a wise ass.

Well me too. I'm American. but with my hyphenated double Italian last name I think they can figure out my ancestry.
Well, of course you do; your NATIONALITY is American. Your race is something completely different. If they want to ask about your ancestry they should just ask. It could make for some really interesting conversation.
