The basic problem with the human race is sin. We do wrong things, and disrespect the God who made us.
Since God is just, our sin requires a punishment. And the just penalty for disrespecting God's infinite majesty is eternal torment (hell).
Jesus Christ is the Savior, in the sense that God chose that he would be the one who would live a perfect human life on earth, and then suffer and die a horrible death on the cross in order to bear God's punishment, as a substitute for others. This allows God to spare people from hell while still making sure that justice is served.
Anyone who trusts in Jesus Christ as their substitute is saved by God from hell.
As for "Lord," one of the reasons why people call Jesus Christ Lord is to acknowledge that he is God. But that brings up other questions.
