Please explain...do you mean like on "Law and Order", when the detectives are sweating a suspect and they say "Your partner Jimmy in the next room says that you were the triggerman!" (when Jimmy actually didn't say anything) in an effort to get their suspect to talk?

The former. They can tell you just about anything they want in interrogation except for incorrect things about your rights. They also do not have to tell you the true reason they pulled you over as long as they have a lawful reason.

I'll agree with your statement about interrogations.

I'm not sure about stating the reason for pulling someone over, so I'll stay neutral on that one. I do know that you're right, they do need a lawful reason (aka probable cause) to do a traffic stop. That's why I think that DUI Checkpoints are bullshit, even though the courts have said that they're constitutional.
