I've only read the first 5 books, but I'm pretty sure it's referring to the battle between the god of fire (humans, summer, etc.) versus the god of ice (them monster dudes, winter, etc.). I, too, could be mistaken. Too lazy to look up whether the George mentioned it in an interview or not.
