No, but all they had back then when it was written were muskets, and if you had the money or skill, rifles. They didn't have pistols, revolvers, shotguns, or any of that back then.

You should read up again on firearms of the time, check out the Belton flintlock, blunderbuss, and pepperbox revolvers. And yes they did have pistols
