With a name like Comet Hunter, I would guess your kids get all the astronomy any kid could wish for. Although I just dabble in astronomy, I like sharing what I can with kids. Maybe it will light a spark :-)

No, my son is only interested in video games, auto repair, and marinading beef patties with A-1 Sauce. I'm the only astronomer in the family. I'm not a pro, but more hardcore than a dabbler. Here's my pride and joy (except for when my kid is actually being useful and fixing my car).

I have an old school Newtonian reflector from Edmund Scientific bought back in the '80s. It's an 8", f4.5 in a yolk mount. It has a clock drive, but uses setting circles.
It uses 1 1/4" eyepieces, but will accept 2".
I have one 2" Erfle eyepiece which you can almost use both eyes :-)

Who cares about ''old school''? It's the size of the primary mirror that matters. I'd give my left nut to have an 8" scope!!! LOL
(My Celestron C5 only has a 5" primary. It's also a royal pain in the butt to collimate.)
