How do you mean?

It seems there might be a better time to submit. I've seen posts with thousands of views, tons of comments and upvotes, and stamped page 9, whereas I've seen a few front page memes with only a handful of views, maybe 10 likes, and a comment or 2.

As to what time is good to submit, I generally try to time it so that my memes come out either before the working day starts (so people can check it before work, and it might be seen through the day too), or in the after school time (since that seems like a heavy traffic time on imgflip). But obviously you can't always control when memes come out, since some take longer to feature than others - especially those with uploaded images for templates.

I use Eastern Standard time zone as my reference.

That's a good strategy (in some ways). You do get a lot less grief there.

I don't know all the answers, but I think the formula has to do not just with comments and upvotes, but also how much time has passed since the meme was generated (the shorter the time, the hotter the meme). So the ones you saw with more comments and upvotes could have been older than the memes that passed them.

Also, keep in mind that downvotes still have an effect, even though we can't see how many are on each meme.

I would encourage you to give up on the idea of finding some kind of formula to getting views and upvotes on imgflip though. I really don't think there is one. I think if you keep trying to figure that out, you'll just be continually disappointed and stressed.

When I was a newer user, I got frustrated that I was making memes that almost nobody was seeing. So I gave up on hoping that people would see my memes, and instead, decided to just use the meme comment option to make jokes on memes that were already on the front page, with the reasoning that at least that way people would see my jokes.

It turns out that was a pretty good decision, as far as imgflip strategy goes (although I didn't know it at the time). People got familiar with me from seeing my meme comments. I think that helps my memes get views from other imgflip users (I think people either click on my name from my comments, or from the top 10 weekly leaderboard next to the front page).

Obviously there's always ways to do better, but it's very rare for me to have a meme go completely unnoticed any more.

It was more of a curiosity thing really. I like solving puzzles!!

That makes sense. I'm curious about how it works too. It's cool to play with the system and see what results come up (submit different memes at different times, etc).

I'm just recommending not having too much of a personal stake in it. :)
