I would encourage you to give up on the idea of finding some kind of formula to getting views and upvotes on imgflip though. I really don't think there is one. I think if you keep trying to figure that out, you'll just be continually disappointed and stressed.
When I was a newer user, I got frustrated that I was making memes that almost nobody was seeing. So I gave up on hoping that people would see my memes, and instead, decided to just use the meme comment option to make jokes on memes that were already on the front page, with the reasoning that at least that way people would see my jokes.
It turns out that was a pretty good decision, as far as imgflip strategy goes (although I didn't know it at the time). People got familiar with me from seeing my meme comments. I think that helps my memes get views from other imgflip users (I think people either click on my name from my comments, or from the top 10 weekly leaderboard next to the front page).
Obviously there's always ways to do better, but it's very rare for me to have a meme go completely unnoticed any more.
