I don't understand Schrödinger's cat.
1) If the box is airtight the cat is dead. Regardless of the poison.
2) If the cat can breathe in the box, then in theory, I should be be able to hear the cat meow. As such if I bang on the box and the cat's alive it will move and make noise. If it's dead, nothing.

And I never have to open the box.

I don't fully get it either. But the whole thing is just a thought experiment, and the 2-penny answer is that as long as the cat REMAINS DIRECTLY UNOBSERVED, it is simultaneously both dead and alive at the same time.
And don't fixate on there being a box. Instead of a box, you could be blindfolded. Or the cat could be behind a screen. Or in another room. The important thing is that you must not be able to see the cat in any way.

You really should go to Wikipedia for a better explanation.
