Slavery was just a small part of it. What about the right for states to self-govern and leave the union when they want? The Federal government was never designed to be a club with permanent membership.

Then why did states each ratify the constitution? They made a deal. That's why the senate has two reps per state. Everyone has a voice. Slavery was THE issue of 1821-1860 politics. They liked their slavery. Why not? They built a whole economy around owning people.

After my own studies, I'd have to say it's definitely about the economics related to cotton and slavery. The rich oppressors be oppressin'. Not all rich are oppressors!

The economy of the south was a big effin deal. It was based mostly around slavery. See what I mean?

Yep. When the price of cotton kept going down, the slaves were often worked to death within a few years. The myth about it being primarily about state's rights still goes around. That's one piece of propaganda they fed the poor white southerners. Why would people fight just to keep others enslaved? Follow the $$$. So I think you & I agree. To me the Conferate flag is a travesty.

Yeah we do agree. Money, or rather the love of it, is the root of all evil
