Mental retardation is not the same as autism, Autism is characterized by sensory overload, adverse reactions to certain stimulus, repetitive behavior is a coping mechanism, more than anything they lack social intricacies. There are some autistic children that have dual or more diagnosis which may include mental retardation. Single diagnosis/high functioning have normal to high IQs, learn/process information at grade level or above, some are even tag level.
