Amazingly.. had this discussion this week. I wish there was still a draft...

when i was in high school (graduated in '98), all males had to sign up for a draft.

The selective service.. used mostly for a crisis, but still something. My dad served 22yrs.. he enlisted.. got a draft notice 1 week later. =)

My dad (who looks like chuck norris and unfortunately did not have a beard the only time they met so the picture isn't the best possible) served in the IDF and fought in the 6 day war. Different breed that generation...
