See, this is where freedom of speech comes into play. If speech from anyone or anything, while basic needs are being met that's a "result" of weak counterarguments from society. Maybe unpersoning "phobes" from being allowed to speak is your "open and honest" solution. Maybe also there is an impact of suicide that comes with being gay as trans "the sex-reassigned persons had substantially higher rates of death from cardiovascular disease and suicide, and substantially higher rates of attempted suicide….Gender surgery is not effective treatment for depression, anxiety or mental disorders." Unless you think trans is a choice and independent from biology.
