Instruments are what you play (piano, drums, guitar). Instrumentals are the songs, but without words (lyrics).

Metallica has some great instrumentals. I thought up this meme listening to my Iron Maiden collection, they've got some great ones. On one of their live albums Bruce Dickinson introduces "Transylvania" saying something to the effect of "here's a song that doesn't have any words and probably never will", LOL!

Did you ever see the episode of "The Simpsons" where they made the church organist play that? That's what I think of every time I hear that song now!

When Iwas in my teens, we had a church organist that would slip in electric prunes, b52s billy joel and all kinds of stuff every week. The guy was amazing. I don't know if you've ever listened to the Electric Prunes "Mass in F Minor" but it is for sure trippy.
