Why do they react like this? Wholesome movies are usually promoted as wholesome movies, so why does the wholesomeness shock and/or upset them?
I'm glad Leonard Maltin wasn't like this. His enjoyment of movies was not limited by age rating, genre, time period, filmmaking method, or any other category. There were wholesome movies he enjoyed and wholesome movies he hated, and there were also edgy movies he loved and edgy movies he hated. He gave perfect 4-star ratings to the G-rated "Bambi" (1942) and the R-rated "Glory" (1989). He never hated a wholesome movie simply and solely for being wholesome.
