KOSA is vaguely worded and tbh will probably be used for repressing political dissent regardless of party affiliation. Just from the wording that websites “know or should have known” a users age, that means to be safe they will all need to add verification. The websites are now liable for who is accessing them which means the safest option to avoid legal complications is to have ID verification for your website, no matter what the service you provide us.
It allows the US to look at your private messages (not like the NSA Has already been doing that for a while but now it will be in writing and available to all police forces). The bill states that it will try to prevent people from talking about prohibited topics with minors. This means: narcotics and drugs alcohol, and… financial fraud?
This raises some questions, how are teenagers supposed to report any of this if they aren’t even allowed to talk about it in the first place? For example: what if a teenager gets scammed? The bill doesn’t prevent that, but appears to prevent people from talking about them, It also raises some first amendment issues.
With these issues aside, it also makes the databases for these websites high value targets, as your ID could be easily stolen from them and used to commit acts as bad as identify fraud.
Take all of this into consideration, as the Parents Decide Act takes all of this and applies it to the Operating System level. Thats right, the very software needed for the computer to operate has to have age verification to use the system. That means new Windows, Apple, and Linux computers have to have some form of age verification just to use that computer (or laptop, or phone). And what’s the best way to check? Your biometrics and government issued ID. This will not only break computers as we know them, it will also make every piece of hardware high value targets with your ID on them. It just makes it so much easier to steal, disregarding anything else the companies and US gov it might be using it for.
Both of these bills combined are extremely dangerous for normal citizens, as it makes it much easier for criminals to steal sensitive information, can make it more difficult to find and/or obtain information, and can be used to oppress political opponents and suppress political dissent (and of course get rid of anyone that questions the government).
