I find it necessary to state that proper English is difficult to speak by design. It was made this way in order to differentiate those of a higher status, as nobles and royalty were the only people presented with this education. It was made difficult to learn because commoners were not given an education equivalent to those of higher status, and as a result, the commoners would have a harder time learning how to speak it. By comparing proper English to common English, one could differentiate those of a higher status than others.
