How To Give Your Cat Liquid Medicine

I use a small syringe and put it between their upper & lower teeth on the side of the mouth. They prefer their right side, actually.

My experience has been if they stupidly have it bubblegum flavor they'll let it run out the side of their mouth. A firm hold and getting it to the throat area makes it impossible for them to do that but that requires two people. Over the years my success with pills has been better. Hold them down, pry mouth open, shove it into back of the mouth then hold mouth shut over nose so they have to swallow. Clever ones can trick you with pill pockets like dogs you mentioned which I mentioned in your comment about dogs doing that.🤭

I don't remember liquid medicine when I had a cat - It was a long, long time ago

I've also used it to give them extra water when I know they need it. I've made them special "tea" when they were injured, too. I'm never without a small syringe for pets.

They should make liquid cat medicine in some kind of safe to consume real cat nip extract. That'd fix this problem 💪

Never had that struggle with a dog. I just threw it in the air and they'd catch it and swallow it. Now cats can be rough but not all.

I like that idea of tossing it to a dog. I should start practicing with my young dog to catch treats so she will be used to it. My previous 16 year old lab didn't catch them.

Yeah! Dog's are awful! I smooth them into balls of cheese...but even then, sometimes they eat the cheese and drop the pill at my feet!

Just have the pill shoved inside of something they like then toss it up in the air and many will catch it and swallow it without knowing it had a pill since in catching it mid-air they're likely to just swallow and not chew or smell it and detect pill aroma. Do it when they're not around quietly. A particularly intelligent breed or individual mutt might catch on but worth a try. Of course the dog I did that with feasted on cat turds but dogs as a whole tend to eat some type of poop. Cat poop is popular with dogs which cats love, as if they need more reasons to be smug. Cats are bad. My one cat would appear to have swallowed the pill but then spit it out around the corner. Also that same cat did what your dog did with pill pocket except he'd look like he was eating it so I'd walk away and he'd eat all but the pill inside. Then you got ones like my Angora who purrs with glee at blood sugar ear prick test and insulin shots.

Pills are easier since the liquid medicine is often stupidly bubblegum flavor and they have meaty flavors but more expensive plus they hate bubblegum so they just let it run out the sides of their mouth unless you can get a good enough hold to cram it to the throat area but with that a pill is easier and faster.
