The Hunchback Of Notre Dame is undoubtedly the darkest movie ever made under the Disney label. It attempted to end on an upbeat note, but I don't think that worked because I'm sure that a lot of people realized that all the thousands (maybe millions) of people killed by Judge Frollo when he burned down their houses with them inside were all still dead. That also means that it possibly has the highest body count for a movie made under the Disney label.
I hope Disney never.remakes it in live-action. We all saw the actual Notre Dame Cathedral go up in flames for real once, and none of us need to see that again. (I'm okay with Disney remaking other animated movies in live-action, though. I'd like to see them remake Oliver and Company in live-action with talking robotic animals.)
