If Japan didn't want us dropping two atomic bombs on them in August 1945, they shouldn't have attacked us at Pearl Harbor in December 1941.
We won World War II by finally earning Japan's respect. In many cases, you can earn people's respect by:
-Showing respect for them first
-Helping them out or pleasing them
-Keeping your promises to them
But in extreme cases, you may have to do extreme things to earn respect. Japan was an extreme case. Here are some extreme things you might have to do in order to earn the respect of a person or group that would be considered an extreme case:
-Accomplish something they believe is impossible
-Beat them at their own game
-Become their worst nightmare
Dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki did all three. The Japanese who survived were all scared out of their minds after that, and that fear showed them the error of their ways, brought them to their senses, and led them to finally do the right thing and surrender.
